What I want to think is the root of stripes

We all know that this upcoming season is all about stripes and certain kind of geometric prints like squares, so popularized by the great Marc Jacobs on both his own collection and Louis Vuitton. This time I will focus just in black and white stripes, my favorite combo. From the previously stated MJ to the amazing designs of the house of Balmain to the fabulous duo composed by Dolce & Gabbana  going through Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta and a little bit of Versace we will see (and are currently seeing) stripes in all kind of items, from shoes and bags to a blazer or pants. 

Todos sabemos que esta temporada es todo sobre rayas y cierto tipo de estampados geométricos como cuadros, tan popularizados por el gran Marc Jacobs tanto en su propia colección como en la de Louis Vuitton. Esta vez sólo me enfocaré en las rayas en blanco y negro, mi combinación favorita. Del previamente mencionado MJ a los maravillosos diseños de la casa de Balmain hasta el fabuloso dúo compuesto por Dolce & Gabbana pasando por Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta y un poco de Versace, veremos (y ya estamos viendo) rayas en todo tipo de prendas, desde zapatos y bolsas hasta un blazer o pantalón.

And I know you've seen so many posts in other blogs about this trend, including me of course, so I wanted to give a little bit of a twist to it while talking about what I would like to think was the inspiration to create all of these collections based on stripes and even though that may not have been the reason (and probably the typical jail uniforms from old movies were), please don't wake me up from my dream. 

Y sé que muchos de ustedes han visto diversas publicaciones en otros blogs sobre esta tendencia, incluyéndome yo por supuesto, así que quise darle un pequeño twist al hablar sobre lo que me gustaría pensar que fue la inspiración para crear todas estas colecciones basadas en rayas y a pesar de que esa no sea la razón (y probablemente los típicos uniformes de las cárceles de películas antiguas lo son), por favor no me despierten de mi sueño.

One of my favorite characters from my childhood is Beetlejuice, I loved how crazy and different he was and if you don't know him, guess what, he wears a whole suit full of stripes. In fact, one day I was wearing striped pants and as soon as a relative (with no awareness of the trend) saw me he said "so you know want to look like Beetlejuice". So yes, my fantasy side wants to believe that Marc Jacobs took inspiration from him (the situation stated above actually fed such fantasy) while my realistic side says "I don't think so" however, take a look at Beetlejuice and judge by yourself.

Uno de mis personajes favoritos de mi niñez es Beetlejuice, me encantaba cuán loco y diferente era y, si no lo conocen, adivinen qué, él usa un traje entero lleno de rayas. De hecho, un día que yo estaba usando un pantalón a rayas y tan pronto como un familiar (sin ninguna conciencia de la tendencia) me vio dijo "así que ahora quieres verte como Beethlejuice". Entonces sí, mi lado fantasioso quiere creer que Marc Jacobs tuvo su inspiración de dicho personaje (la situación mencionada anteriormente de hecho llenó tal fantasía) mientras que mi lado realista dice "no lo creo", de cualquier forma, échenle un vistazo a Beetlejuice y juzguen por ustedes mismos.
